The Queen’s Honours were announced on New Year’s Eve and two crime fiction authors were among those recognized.
Anthony Horowitz – OBE
Horowitz is the creator of Young Adult series featuring Alex Rider the world’s youngest spy. And I have to mention he is also the creator of the wonderful ITV TV show Foyle’s War.
Alanna Knight – MBE
Knight is the creator of the Tam Eildor series and Rose McQuinn Series as well as numerous other books of psychological thrillers, historical crime, and romance suspense, and true crime. She accepted the award under her given name of Gladys Knight.
History of the Orders of the British Empire
King George V created these honours during World War I to reward services to the war effort by civilians at home and servicemen in support positions.
The ranks are Commander (CBE), Officer (OBE) and Member (MBE).
Currently they are awarded for prominent national or regional roles and to those making distinguished or notable contributions in their specific areas of activity. The honour of an MBE, in particular, can be given for achievement or service in the community.
