R. Michael Phillips: Between Good and Evil

Between Good And Evil by R. Michael Phillips

Small town suspense

Big city crime

Sheriff Promise Flynn is a scarred former Chicago detective who resettled in Auburn Notch after two criminals left her for dead. The events now unfolding in this quiet town have her very frightened but she is smart and knows how to work the facts.

A coarse, staged murder has her and Deputy Hank Harris unravelling statements that don’t add up and circumstances that seem unlikely. Harris wanted Sherriff Flynn’s job, will he be friend or foe as a grim reality of multiple deaths settle over the town? A reckless journalist, anti-social photographer and creepy PI are characters we keep our eye on for each has their own agenda.

R. Michael Phillips has an incredible hand at descriptive detail: clothing, rooms, scenery. It leaves a flavour for you to sample and settings you can envision stepping into. Considering the murders that are behind this story that can sometimes be an uncomfortable place.

Between Good And Evil is part of the Auburn Notch Mystery series.

    • I heard Jeff at Noir at the Bar – Toronto last year. His reading was so funny and the room roared. I may have introduced myself but can’t remember.
We are FB friends, shall I tell him you suggested I bring the book to his attention?

  1. I’m finishing The Last Victim and have Between Good and Evil next on my TBR list, so I was especially interested in your review. I can hardly wait to dig in.
