Kathleen Kent: The Dime

The Dime Kathleen Kent Book Review Murder In Common

New City

Alternate Life

Dallas – Detective Betty Rhyzyk’s new city. A place to forget about policing in Brooklyn. New York law enforcement is her family culture, but that is her past. Her life is in Texas now with her girlfriend Jackie.

She scores a great partner in Seth and deftly handles the other detectives she works with who have problems with her sexual orientation.  And Jackie’s family, that’s another matter altogether. Rhyzyk is smart, funny and a helluva cop. Her self-awareness is as notable as her reluctance to start a family.

Tomas “El Gitano” Ruiz is part of the Nueva Juarez drug scene and dangerous as hell. When the surveillance team Rhyzyk is leading goes pear shaped the assassinations begin. The heat may be driving her crazy but this case has a quality that puzzles. Rhyzyk will rely on every things she knows and every thing she is to withstand what comes next.

The Dime is a well-balanced story, with engaging characters and smart action.
