Sisters in Crime Toronto: 25 Years

Oh What A Night

The Toronto chapter of Sisters in Crime had a wonderful celebration earlier this week, marking 25 years as part of the larger Sisters in Crime organization (who are celebrating 30 years.)

The history of this association is fascinating. Women crime fiction writers put remarkable effort and work into to being recognized. The crime fiction genre at that time, acknowledged and nominated male authors in significantly higher numbers.

Hank Phillippi Ryan

The energizing guest speaker was Hank Phillippi Ryan, who has 33 Emmy Awards for investigative journalism, among many other honours. In her ‘spare time’, she has written nine crime fiction novels, that have won five Agatha awards, the Daphne, two Macavity awards, two Anthony awards and the Mary Higgins Clark award. An incredible working legacy.

Hank Phillippe Ryan speaking about her books, the characters and where her ideas come from. Her latest novel, Say No More is a best seller currently in a third printing.
