Reavis Z. Wortham: The Rock Hole

Reavis Z Wortham, June Lorraine Roberts, The Rock Hole, MurderInCommon.comSmall town terror

It’s 1964 and Center Springs Texas has a problem. It starts with the discovery of a dog tortured and killed. As Constable Ned Parker surveys the scene he recognizes this is just a beginning.

As the animal killings escalate over the weeks and months, the clues left behind show that the killer’s ultimate prey is human. Children in particular.

Parker’s grandson Topper is living with him. It’s inevitable that Top and his friend Pepper will be targets of the killer as Parker senses that somehow, it all ties back to him.

It takes the combined effort of two communities, Parker’s white community of Center Springs and Paris, the black community. And most importantly Paris has Deputy Sheriff, John Washington. For really, Parker is  just a cotton farmer with a part-time job in law enforcement.

In a land of tornadoes The Rock Hole by Reavis Z. Wortham brings a riveting, harrowing end to the story.

  1. I went to Amazon, and did the look inside thing – the first chapter definitely draws you in. Thanks for the recommendation!!!

  2. I like the premise, though it centers on victims that I usually draw the line on–children and animals. The racial component and the uneasy alliance of these components compels me. Plus I like the Texas setting. I may give it a go, if the killing is not too graphic.
