A Scandinavian Thriller

The Grand Man has lots going on as there are three crimes to be solved. Two past, one present.
The murder of Sweden’s Prime Minister Olaf Palme in 1986, Stieg Larrson’s missing 4th book, and the murder of Henrik Nordqvist, owner of the Spink nightclub and character in this book.
Juliet Brown is an American journalist who has come to Stockholm to interview a jazz musician. She also happens to channel Lisbeth Salandar in her head.
Juliet teams-up with Swedish journalist Magnus Lindbloom to solve the crime of her new friend Nordqvist and as things go, much more is involved.
Well written, atmospheric, great character development from Florence Wetzel. The cold weather in this novel will cool you off if you can’t make it to the beach!

This sounds so interesting! I remember years ago reading an essay on “why the rise in Scandinavian crime fiction?” (This is pre-Liz Salamander), and the author thought it was the loss of innocence after the 1986 assassination of Olaf Palma. I don’t know whether that is correct, but I do think America has never been the same after 1968 and November 1963. Watching PBS’s six hours on the first moon landing and seeing all the footage of JFK riding around in motorcades in an open convertible–wow. Those innocent days are long gone! Thanks for this, JLR!

This sounds very cool. Scandinavian thrillers are usually quite intense. At least those that I’ve read. I loved The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Just that one. Larrson’s second one was good but it suffered because he didn’t finish it–at least, that’s my recollection. The other books in the series I didn’t bother with. I’m glad that you’ve recommended this novel that references her character.
