If you’re lonely, sad, and blue, the Whisper Man will come for you
Tom and his son Jake have moved to a new house in a new town after the unexpected death of Tom’s wife.
It is there that he learns about The Whisper Man, Frank Carter, a murderer of children who has been in prison for years.
How then is Jake hearing whispering at his bedroom window? When Tom finds him one late night, at the door with keys in his hand, he calls the police.
DI Pete Willis is investigating a missing child case. He visits Carter to see if he will provide any insight.
He has visited Carter over the years hoping he will reveal the location of his last murdered child. But as usual Carter is a jovial, psychopath whose conversation is circuitous and cruel.
In many ways this is a father & son story. The vulnerability of Tom as he struggles to deal with a grieving Jake, and his own feelings of loss and inadequacy as a father is prominent in this story.
This might possibly be my best book of 2019. Well constructed, beautifully paced, with excellent character development. Not to mention a touch of the supernatural.
