DCI Louise Boni tracks the battered Buddhist monk through the gathering snow and gloom.
She knows he needs help, but there is a language barrier. All Boni has is her insight and intuition. Something she is excellent with.
The thing is, Boni has an alcohol problem. She is completely self-destructive, internally driven by the ghosts of past acts.
Where the monk takes her though is beyond the men and the trucks. Is some redemption possible through him?
This debut by Oliver Bottini brings a character in Boni that you may not like. How she relates to her cases is what’s important. It’s a slow beginning, but stick with it.

When an unlikeable protagonist is pulled off in the right way, they can be pretty awesome. I definitely admire any effort at this since I’m sure it’s a tough job. Great post!
