Murder in Common

All about crime fiction books and authors. Mainly, I feature books by debut and mid-list writers. While not quite reviews, I consider these books to be recommended reading and try to give the flavour of each story.

June Lorraine Roberts

Currently, two of my Flash Fiction stories have been published:

The Hong Kong Deal – Akashic Books

Picking Blueberries –  The Flash Fiction Press

For those of you not familiar with Flash Fiction, these are very short stories generally from 750 to 1200 words, depending upon the publishers requirements.

I’m a graduate from the London School of Journalism and work as a freelance corporate communications consultant.

Some random bits:

I began reading crime fiction at an early age by sneaking from the kids side of the library to where the real books were kept.

I’m a self-proclaimed writer & dilettante word crafter. My hobbies include: staring at keyboards, looking out windows, gazing at empty pages, and crying over a well balanced, fruit forward, pinot noir.

I was never a trophy wife but got to play the part for 3-years in Asia.

thanks for finding and following me. i love your ‘about’ page, and shows that you are a person who is not afraid to be who you really are. i am a crime story fan, as well, though i prefer reading about them, rather than being a part of them. best, beth

    • September 8, 2018 at 12:58 PM

Thanks so much Beth, very kind words 🙂
If you come across a crime fiction book that resonates with you please think about dropping me a note. I really appreciate input from anyone who come across my site.

        I absolutely will)

  3. May 19, 2018 at 5:49 PM

Have you sent a story for me to look at for one of my contests? We actually just had a murder mystery contest. Of course you knew that because you were reading one of the stories earlier.

What were your thoughts on it? The contest and the winners?

    • May 20, 2018 at 9:35 AM

Hello Dan, nice to connect. No, I haven’t submitted a story for one of your contests. It’s always quite interesting to see the different writing styles of each author and appreciate the POV of their characters 🙂

      • May 20, 2018 at 9:53 AM

It really is. I bet you and your associates at Murder In Common would lend some interesting views to them!

  4. March 5, 2017 at 10:48 PM

Hi, Today I discovered your website, wow!! I really like it. Very interesting for me. Thank you for sharing it. I am sure I can learn a lot from you.

You are very welcome, is my pleasure .

  5. January 10, 2017 at 5:47 AM

Hi June, thanks for liking one of my posts. I’m going to be checking more of yours out. It looks really interesting and inviting. I’ve always liked crows, they are intelligent, and it’s a clever take on murder. A murder of crows.

    • January 11, 2017 at 1:07 PM

Hey there, my pleasure. Thanks so much for dropping by & following!

      • January 12, 2017 at 4:58 AM

You are most welcome. I enjoy your reviews. I look forward to exploring the rest of your blog.

      • January 12, 2017 at 11:51 AM

You’ve read so many of them…thank you!

      • January 13, 2017 at 12:26 AM

I like to read reviews and critiques, so I decided to read all of yours at once.

  6. January 9, 2017 at 6:54 PM

Thank you for the follow! I’ve got more crime fiction reviews to come in the future. I’ve been digging deeper into Fredric Brown lately. Hard-to-find, but check him out if you get the chance. Love your blog! I’ve already added to my to-read list.

    • January 9, 2017 at 8:27 PM

I immediately looked up Brown, very interesting! I’ll be on the lookout for his books. Thanks for stopping by…what books did you add to your TBR list?

      • January 9, 2017 at 8:52 PM

The Second Girl. Love the idea of a narcotics detective addicted to narcotics. It reminds me a bit of Filth and Crime by Irvine Welsh. Those two are tangentially crime fiction (Crime being closer to the genre), but stellar reads.

      • January 9, 2017 at 9:30 PM

Ah ha! Another author I had to check out…I’m partial to UK authors and now I have to add Welsh to my TBR list… thanks! (I think!)

June, had to stop by and say thank you for following me—which has me looking over my shoulder—In My Cluttered Attic. The fact that you made this questionable (well some non-readers might think so) decision, without any coercion on my part—the check is in the mail—is an obvious testament to my ability at convincing people that I can actually write compelling content—that, an the possibility that you may have read one of my post shortly after coming home from a Christmas party, where there may have been lot of alcohol consumption. It’s a good thing, though, because my yearly follower bribery budget looks rather lean right now. I’ve noticed that your writing has a sense of humor as well—not that I would ever suggest that I have a sense of humor, emphatically demand perhaps, but never suggest—and so I look forward to reading more of your post. I’ve been told reading other bloggers is a great way to exchange (and otherwise steal) fellow bloggers ideas. Not that I would ever stoop to stealing ideas, but I’m not above it either. But in all seriousness, I am genuinely delighted to have you visiting my blog, and many thanks. I’m now going to have a look around at your blog, but not to worry, as I see your security detail is going to be kind enough to accompany me. :O)

    • December 19, 2016 at 11:38 PM

Hahaha! Are there bats in the belfry? Ring-a-ding-ding, it’s Christmas in the tower and at the market.
Thanks for stopping by…I’ve beefed up security…you won’t get away with anything! 🙂

      • December 20, 2016 at 5:11 AM

Well I guess not seeing as you’ve overfed them and beefed them up, leaving me to starve to death! Oh well, I least you’ve left me plenty of good material to read. 😀

  8. October 24, 2016 at 10:26 PM

Hello June! Saw your comments on our blog, #MotiveMeansOpportunity — thanks so much! I love this from your “about” page: “My hobbies include: staring at keyboards, looking out windows, gazing at empty pages, and crying over a well balanced, fruit forward, pinot noir.”
If you will substitute a fine, single malt Scotch for the pinot noir, then we’re almost soul mates — shh! don’t tell my wife!
Anyway, you are hereby invited to guest post on MMO anytime on any subject (as long as we can work you in); and this is an open invitation. Thank you for visiting and commenting on our guest post at MMO! 🙂

    • October 25, 2016 at 10:09 AM

Well a wee dram of scotch is a fine substitute! Thanks for the open invitation, it is very much appreciated. 🙂

      • September 8, 2016 at 6:10 AM

Thank you, They all deserve remembrance, we’re losing so many every day.

  10. August 8, 2016 at 4:50 PM

Hello from a fellow traveller on the corporate communications treadmill. How do you find time to do that and write a blog and somehow fit in your own fiction writing. Phew…..
    Thanks for following me…..

    • August 8, 2016 at 6:20 PM

Hi Karen, I do freelance communications so there are times I’m not working. Hard on the money side but great for the writing/reading side of things.
I hold an EU passport – I guess that may change – my father was a Londoner. However my grandmother was from Wales. Sadly, I have no idea where. Wales is on my travel list, possibly for 2017
Thanks for the follow-back. Looking forward to your posts.
