Murder in southern climes: Finding new community

The search for Florida crime fiction authors.

The kilometers have flown by and now we are ensconced in our winter home. Had someone told me 15-years ago that I would be spending months of my life living in a gated, golf community in Florida I would have laughed my guts up.

However, what provides enjoyment for one provides opportunity for another. So this year I will gather courage and venture out attempting to make connections within the writers’ community of Southwest Florida.

Many famous authors have come from the sunshine state: John D. MacDonald, James, Grippando, Stuart Woods, Carl Hiaasen, Stuart Kaminsky, Jeff Lindsay, Carl Hiaasen, Tim Dorsey and many more.

As is my custom to date, I will be looking for those somewhat hidden authors, those who are published yet unknown further afield. Those solid, entertaining writers that are enjoyed by many but not by enough. Yes, it’s you I’m searching for and I can’t wait to meet you.

Well, speaking of Florida… ok, actually I’m not. Thailand! Try John Burdett’s Bangkok 8. It looks like a familiar trope at first glance, but be prepared to see murder, police corruption, revenge, the FBI, and of course sex, through saintly Buddhist eyes.

Oh, and New Scientist this week kiboshes the acid bath idea for getting rid of the body. And the plan was going so well…

It’s warm, has palm trees, it qualifies. John Burdett has several books published in the Sonchai Jitpleecheep Series and I’ve been wanting to start his books for a while now. Therefore in honour of your inaugural post I will start Bangkok 8 today.

Body, acid bath what are you talking about?
