Harry Hunsicker: The Devil’s Country

The Devils Country Harry Hunsicker Book Review Murder In Common

No ones hero

Someone’s saviour

Once a Texas Ranger, now inveterate traveler, Arlo Baines moves from hill to hollow to forget. The void in his life is unfillable.

Never long in one place, his stopover in the West Texas town of Piedra Springs changes that. In a parking lot he encounters a woman and her children. They are desperate for help to escape armed men. The next day she is found murdered. The sheriff shrugs his shoulders and tells him to get back on the next bus out of town.

Compelled by forces he doesn’t acknowledge Baines searches for the children. He enters into a world of depravity and greed, and the Sky of Zion cult. Therein are dark parallels with his past. He should have stayed on the bus.

Many layers of tragedy and sorrow. The Devil’s Country is a damn fine read.
