Pack up the gear and hit the road. Your traveling companion, the serial killer Carl Louis Feldman. He’s the reason for the trip after all. Grace just has to pick him up at the halfway house for persons with dementia.

The trip is well planned, each dot on the map represents a missing girl. Just like her sister Rachel who vanished 12 years earlier. It’s quite the journey.

For me, there were a few spots that needed a bit more than provided, such as the training she undertook for her mission. Yet, I enjoyed that same sparse prose regarding her romantic relationship.

Does Feldman really have dementia? Grace struggles with that and you may as well. Paper Ghosts is sly, clever, creepy and at times, poignant. I dare you not to like it. Thanks Julia Heaberlin.

    Agree. This is a very interesting book. And, as you say, creepy, as the battle of wits between Grace and Carl (does he really have dementia?) proceeds. Carl Feldman was a photographer, and Grace keeps thinking his old photos will reveal his secrets. Does he use the camera to show or to hide? From a writing perspective, I thought Heaberlin did a bang-up job handling backstory. No clunky info-dumps. All seamless and expertly handled. This was one of those books I really could not put down! Reviewed it for crimefictionlover.com.
