Candace Fox: Crimson Lake

Crimson Lake by Candice Fox, Book Review Murder In Common

Lake of Tears

In Crimson Lake, former detective Ted Conkaffey does his best to remain unnoticed. Charged with the sexual assault of a young girl, no one believes he is innocent when the charges are dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Depressed at losing the right to visit his daughter, Conkaffey meets with PI Amanda Pharrell at his attorney’s suggestion. Despite misgivings, he agrees to help her with a missing persons case.

Pharrell is an ex-con convicted of murdering a teenager she went to school with. To say she is a little off-centre is putting it mildly. With an office full of cats, and a quicksilver nature, she proves difficult to keep on track.

It’s just one of Conkaffey’s problems, as two corrupt police officers make him their mission for justice. Really, all he wants is to go out for a beer without being recognized.

Well written and executed, Candice Fox is an author to read.
