Noelle Holten: 6 Ripley Avenue

Ripley House Approved Premises. It’s a probation hostel or perhaps halfway house in my parlance. Several ex-cons are resident here, and now one of them, Danny Wells, is dead.

Jeanette Macey is the probation officer in charge of the house and it seems that the surveillance system has malfunctioned. Neglect, or by design? Either way she is the one whose feet are held to the fire.

Helen Burgess has been concerned about the residents of 6 Ripley Avenue and formed a neighbourhood watch committee. Together with her friend, freelance investigative journalist, Sloane Armstrong, they know there is much more than day-to-day activities at the house. They are going to find out what those activities are.

In a departure from her highly successful DC Maggie Jamieson series, author Noelle Holten gives us an interesting tale told from several perspectives, including the killers. Go ahead and walk on over to 6 Ripley Avenue, there’s a lot going on.

I have to say, the setting for this one is fascinating – I can see how a place like a halfway house could have several possibilities when it comes to crime fiction. The characters sound really interesting, too, June. Hmmm…. this does have some appealing elements!

I always like stories told from different perspectives, especially when one of them is the killer.
