Matt Phillips: A Good Rush of Blood

“I’m somebody who never had a chance.”

Creeley is a courier, a drug and money courier to be exact. She travels where ever Animal tells her to go. She’s one of his best – never any trouble from her while on the road.

Reliable he’d say. Of course, until the trip to California she had been entirely dependable.

She was returning to the place she ran away from and a mother who turned tricks to support her habit. Creeley had never looked back until a bit of curiosity grabbed her.

It was a meeting with the man who’d helped her as a boy, hop the freight train away back then. He told Creeley her mother was in prison for murder.

Animal is calling, and texting, steamed about her delay and excuses, and then furious about her non-responsiveness. But Creeley is on a mission of something indefinable because her mother told her she was innocent.

A Good Rush of Blood is great noir book and reading how the writing by Matt Phillips has evolved was a very rewarding experience. You’ll enjoy it too.

  1. […] Somewhat different from Phillips’ other books, Second Lies the Son is a menacing study of the lies men tell themselves to justify what comes next. For a review of Phillips’ excellent book A Good Rush of Blood, please Click Here. […]

I think this would be fun, thanks for the invite. My time is maxed out until the end of March as I’m a Judge in a major awards program in Canada for crime fiction. Maybe we touch base after that.

Have not read this book yet June – I have yet to check it out 🙂 Anyway, I just got your second reply on my recent blog entry and I just replied back to you. I wanted to let you know that your second reply inexplicably ended up in the spam folder, but I retrieved it from there 🙂

Creeley sounds like a very strong character, June, and that’s the way I like ’em. And that’s a really strong premise for a noir story. I can see how it would appeal.
