Patrick B. Simpson: Pierce

Truman Pierce may not be what people assume is the typical maintenance man. He’s young, in his mid-twenties, and loves jazz.

Pierce finds the body of college instructor Danielle Hutchins in her classroom. Strangely, a business card is left on her body and the only thing on the card is a cross.

He’s investigated by two detectives, one in particular seems convinced that Pierce killed Hutchins and is aggressive towards him.

Pierce starts his own investigation with help from two college students. It’s a dangerous path he’s taken into a swamp of corruption, drugs, and ruthless ambition.

A solid debut by Patrick B. Simpson and I look forward to finding out more about the quiet and reserved Pierce.

That’s a really interesting perspective – a maintenance person. And I do like a college/uni setting. It sounds like an intriguing mystery, too, and I’m glad you liked it, June.
