“You work for fucking bookies? You? You must be shitting me.”

When Hector Perez walked out of a liquor store with a shotgun and a six-pack of beer his ride was gone.
Pointing the gun at Abigail Barnes’ windshield he demanded a ride. He couldn’t know how things would change for him.
Barnes is a freelance debt collector for the the world of betting and loan sharking.
The opposite of type, petite and pretty, she prefers persuasion over action. If that doesn’t work she swiftly and effectively deals with the situation.
New in town Barnes is looking for work. Perez introduces her to his cousin. As these things go, the ladder of connections takes her to her first successful job. She and Perez celebrate at a steakhouse.
Not long after, the man Barnes collected from is found dead at his desk. His office safe is open and empty. The impact of that murder is felt in places higher than expected and pressure is exerted down the chain. Now everyone is hunting Barnes.
A great page turner, The Debt Collector is speckled with dark humour, and tense action. It’s a book to be devoured. Well recommended read.
This is the second book I’ve recommended by Russo. Click Here to read about The Dead Don’t Sleep another excellent story.
