Child Psychologist, Dr. Willa Watters is back in her hometown of Broken Bayou to clear out her mother’s boxes. They’ve been stored for many years in the attic of The Aunts’ home. She’s now in a nursing home but Krystal Watters was quite the gal back in the day.
Her alcoholism drove her to levels of outrageous and damaging behaviours – especially those foisted on her daughters Willa and Mabry. Add to that, she was also bi-polar.
Watters is also hiding out from social media after walking out on a TV interview when questions arise about her relationship with her former mentor and ex-husband.
So the expected quick in-and-out visit isn’t going to be possible. Barrels containing bodies are discovered in the bayou and also the car that Willa pushed in there when she was 17-years old. The car she now believes her mother and sister put a body in the trunk of. She’s thinking about turning herself in to the Sheriff, but not before she watches the VCR tape she hid in the attic with her mother’s things.
Quite enjoyed Broken Bayou, the debut thriller from Jennifer Moorhead. Smoothly written with great tension, and menacing people. You’ll enjoy this one.
