Correlation is not causation

Xavier ‘Priest’ Priestly, former student of the Catholic Church, now freelance investigator for hire.
“Xavier Priestly worked as a licensed freelance legal investigator, contracting himself out to big-shot lawyers at big-shot law firms.”
His best friend, Dusty Queen, is a well-employed stuntwoman and bodyguard. Her girlfriend Nikki Celeste is missing.
“Dusty Queen looked like a Finn crossed with a Korean crossed with a Pict crossed with a Carthaginian crossed with a Martian.”
Nikki is a sex worker and Dusty believes they have a future together. No one else believes they do.
Xavier agrees to help Dusty find Celeste which leads them to her ‘manager’ Parris Ferrer.
“In her mid-fifties, toned and formidable despite a steady diet of black coffee and pie…”
Parris believes that Celeste has run off with a client, and will be back eventually. Dusty is white knuckled with anger at her casual attitude.
During this time frame Xavier is attacked in his garage. All he remembers is ‘she’ is wearing a blue wig. Dusty showing up unexpectedly probably saved his life. The who and why of the attack is completely unknown.
This is such a fun book full of snark and witticisms. Great characters, well observed and rendered. Hints about future ventures are seeded in the storyline but you really don’t care. Undoubtedly the beginning of a series and I’m grateful for that. Highly entertaining and well recommended.
