At last, book #3 in the City of Forts series and it starts off with a flash/bang.
Ricky Nardilo flies home after many years away to see his little brother Brett. He’s been hospitalized after a beating.
Ricky’s history with his home town is known by all, he turned in corrupt cops. Some hate him, some admire him, none of this makes for a comfortable experience.
Within 24-hours Brett has him involved in a shooting. He needs money, a fair amount of it to get out of trouble.
Ricky has money, raised to help with his daughter’s medical bills. Her life expectancy is short but Ricky can’t buy his brother’s life at the expense of his only child…he just can’t.
Where it Hurts was certainly worth waiting for. There’s a stifling overlayer of crime prevalent in the community that seeps into his family’s life. The underlying theme of family and poverty grinds, but it’s a burden that you want to explore.
