Unknowingly, I began reading Boomtown and then discovered that it’s actually Book #3 in a series. There were hints along the way but overall, it read quite well on its own.
So, here it is – Chief of Detectives Delia Mariola, capable, effective, and stymied.
The swath of land known as Boomtown is an unregulated town built to service the workers building the new Nissan plant. It’s responsible for the drugs and violence in neighbouring Baxter that Mariola is responsible for.
The New York mob has moved in and is taking care of the Horde biker gang. The man overseeing this transition is a true psychopath.
Mariola watches in frustration as the violence builds, the politicians become increasingly nervous, and the blame game begins.
A prostitute, dead from an overdose, brings unwanted attention in the form of her sister and father. They are hill people, coming to see justice served.
Boomtown is a gritty, well paced book, with great characters. If I ever get the chance, I’ll start with book one. Well recommended read.
