Dame Polara works for the City of Toronto keeping heritage properties from the wrecking ball. She enjoys her work and going home to her daughter Rosie.
The two of them plus Polara’s father Dodge (who is plagued with aphasia) share a home and lives that work well enough together.
When her ex-husband Adam goes missing, and eventually found washed ashore by the Port Lands, it’s an upset on many levels. Polara begins to examine her past as a wife and her role now as a mother.
Who by Water is written with a charm and likability that have you fully engaged. At the heart of it all is the mystery of Adam’s death. And how and why did his beloved guitar ‘Suzanne’ end up on consignment in a music shop.
Truly a delight, the second book in the Dame Polara Mystery is the first that I’ve read and I found it easy as a stand-alone. Who by Water has it all and is delivered with competent style. Well recommended read.
