David Swinson: From the Dust

Graham Sanderson, a retired Washington, D.C., homicide detective is trying to leave behind the violence and grief that defined his former life. He’s moved to upstate New York to take care of his brother, a troubled agoraphobic, after their father’s death.

He’s not long in town before there’s a murder and swiftly after that, another one. Police Chief William Finn, also a family friend, asks Sanderson to assist with the investigation. Working alongside Investigator Gottert he’s up for the challenge.

From the Dust is framed as a rural noir about grief, family, and belief, and asking what remains to stand for when nearly everything else has been stripped away. David Swinson delivers more than that with a raw, insightful and well paced police procedural.
