Kennedy Weible: Dirty Myrtle

Sailor Cassidy is an HVAC technician nursing emotional bruises from her last relationship. Wanting to help her sister Carrie gather proof of a cheating husband, she conducts surveillance on him and has been for a while.

This amateur endeavor coils into something nasty, when Sailor’s stakeout runs across Officer Tusk Knight on a mission for his captain. And then a kidnapping takes place that neither of them could have expected.

Weible’s voice is solid – the writing has energy, is observant and edged with humour. Nicely, it doesn’t lose sight of the real people impacted in the story.

All in all, Dirty Myrtle is a community where everyone knows too much and still misses the obvious. Funny beach-town noir with sand in its shoes and trouble in every strip mall..

    “Dirty Myrtle” — I love that title. It feels familiar in the best way, pulls you in, and makes you instantly curious. Oh, but you know what they say… curiosity is what killed the cat.

    I like the setting…is this Myrtle Beach the South Carolina one? If so, I’ve been there. Had a great time but the water isn’t pretty. It’s grey. For beaches I prefer Florida.

    Oh, this sounds like a fun read, June. And I do like the setting. It sounds, too, as though the story has a solid balance of dark and light.
