One step out

Brigid Quinn retired from the FBI after many years in the field. She never caught the Route 66 killer, and worse than that, she lost an agent to him.

With a new husband she adores she lives behind a mask, hiding her fear and regret. The job had a profound affect on her, and she’s afraid she will lose him if he knew just how dark things had been.  

Then the Route 66 killer is arrested and confesses. As a courtesy, Quinn is brought in on the wrap-up. But one agent on the case doesn’t believe he is the real killer. Quinn believes she is right and struggles with that, even as the killer leads them to the dead agent’s body.

There is also a little problem with two attempts on her life. Who could want her dead after all this time?

Rage Against the Dying by Becky Masterman was a finalist for the Edgar Awards, the CWA Gold Dagger, the Macavity, Barry, ITW and Anthony awards. It’s an excellent book and I’m glad I finally got around to reading it.
