Ben and Fab, best friends in 1989 Stawell, the Wimmera region of rural Victoria Australia.
They play cricket and catch yabbies (crayfish). Sounds idyllic but there are problems. The bruises on Fab from his father, and being teased at school for his darker complexion.
Ben’s next door neighbour hanged herself, she was just a girl. Why did she do that and what’s with the man who moved in when her family moved out?
So many questions and few answers. But you get them all at the end of the book.
Slow your pace, take it all in. Into the River is well written and deserves your attention.

Sounds like a slower read with some top notch writing. I generally prefer a fast-moving book but sometimes a slower paced tale can work. I suppose it comes down to who’s behind the pen. I will definitely give this one a chance. Thanks for posting, June! You keep the crime fiction world rockin’!
