In the past I’ve reviewed three of her crime fiction books, The Dr. Hope Sze Medical Mystery series, by Melissa Yi. What you may not have noticed is that Yi is known in the medical world as Dr. Yuan-Innes, and she’s an Emergency Room doctor.
This is one small attempt to honour a genuine humanitarian and sparkling wit, whose work has been short-listed for an Arthur Ellis Award and a Derringer*.
The Hope Sze Medical Crime Series

Yi’s series started with Code Blues but by the time I first met her at Noir at the Bar – Toronto (where she did her first reading for them in 2015) the second book of the series Notorious D.O.C. had also been published.
Stockholm Syndrome was the first book I reviewed: Yi has her own style of reflective humour as chaos whirls around her.
Human Remains was next: from her dire circumstances in Stockholm Syndrome, the aftermath resulted in PTSD.
Death Flight followed in 2017: you are in for quite a flight folks as it’s non-stop action.
If you think that’s all, you’d be far from correct. The number of books Yi has written from 2011 to now is astounding, and includes short stories and books on weight loss and healing dry eyes. You can view her full portfolio here.
I actually think she is a human dynamo. She is often seen wearing a red t-shirt with the Super Woman logo. It completely suits her.

[…] more can I say about Melissa Yi, than I have over the years? Only then, that she continues to write this amazing series I’m totally hooked […]
Whoa! She is a prolific writer. Superwoman, indeed!
And one of the best people to be around. Thanks for stopping by!
Now that is an interesting career mix! Thank you for the interesting overview.
These are very interesting to me. Four of my family are in the medical field. I bet her next one will be the Covid-19!
I won’t be surprised 🙂
I love this series, and Melissa, and I was totally honoured to blurb her last (AMAZING) book, Graveyard Shift. She’s an inspiration!
Thanks Judy, she certainly is 🙂
What a lovely thing to do! As far as I’m Melissa Yi deserves a Maine wowsah. Holy cats, what a dynamo!
This may be my very first Maine wowsah. Thank you, Laurie!
